PUT ME IN COACH

Being put into the game is a great feeling.

That moment when the starting line-up is called and your name is on the list is an exhilirating feeling.

Even more, there are times when you are called on to lead the team:

  • Pitcher
  • Quarterback
  • Point Guard

When someone appoints us to a position there is simultaneously:

  1. Joy because they trust us
  2. A great sense of responsibility

Something similar is happening here in 1 Timothy.

1 TIMOTHY 1:12

Paul is writing to a young pastor, and he makes it clear in his letter that he is writing to promote sound doctrine. As he makes his way through his introduction, he says:

"12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service."

There is lots here that could be spoken about:

  • Paul feeling strengthened/enabled by Christ
  • Even while he was persecuting the church, Christ considered him trustworthy (interesting)
  • Paul didn't choose his station but was appointed to his station

A great deal of Paul's confidence, joy, and responsibility comes from the last portion - that Christ as appointed, stationed him in his role.

EMBRACE YOUR STATION

It's a good thing to know a few things:

  1. Whatever the seasons, God strengthens and enables us for the season ahead
  2. No matter our past, God can find us trustworthy
  3. From season to season, God is appointing and stationing you

None of the above relieves us of the responsibility to:

  • Be diligent in our learning
  • Act with wisdom in discovering what we are good at
  • Pursuing the things that make us come alive

However, as we do these things - we can trust that God is establishing our steps and moving us into positions and stations of appointment for his glory.
