"BETTER TOGETHER"

Organizations often times use this phrase to promote team work, but probably more realistically - slow work.

While organizations will use this phrase to slowly move teams towards a desired outcome togehter, something different is also true about this - some of the best moments in life are simply when everyone is together.

  • Game night is more fun when the whole family is together.
  • Football games are more energizing when the whole fan base shows up.
  • Concerts are are more electric when the whole crowd is roaring at the top of their lungs.

All of these moments are a bit more anti-climactice when not everyone is there.

Something similar is happening in Acts 2.

ACTS 2:1

In recording early church history, Acts 2:1 says "When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place."

Who is everyone?

Acts 1 & 2 tells us who this is compromised of:

  1. Men (Acts 1:13)
  2. Women (Acts 1:14)
  3. Children (by virtue of the fact that men+women are there and 2:17)
  4. About 120 of the above (1:15)

When all these men, women, and children are gathered together in one place - the Spirit falls.

It's interesting to note that Luke records tthe Spirit NOT filling them when they are dispersed and alone immediately following the crucifixion, it dont NOT fill them when they are just the 11 in a room (although John records a fairly cool Holy Spirit moment with the disciples in the room), but instead, Luke records the filling of the Spirit when all the families are gathered together at Pentecost.

A FAMILY ENDEAVOR

This kind of "togetherness" is helpful for us.

It reminds us that the the Holy Spirit fills:

  • Men
  • Women
  • Children

That the Holy spirit loves to fill:

  • Fathers
  • Mothers
  • Sons & Daugthers

That the Holy Spirit delights when the whole family is together waiting on the Spirit.

That's why we shouldn't become bothered or wrestless when the family is a little distracting in church services, prayer meetings, and worship events.

These kinds of spaces were designed for the entire family.

Church spaces are best when everyone is together.

Families are better together.
